
Ormond was the daughter of Josephine of a lab technician and John Ormond (a stockbroker) located in Epsom, Surrey. Ormond is the second of five children for her parents. Her early appearances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. She went on to Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in art school, she was enrolled to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art which she attended until 1988. Ormond first appeared on British television in the 1989 show Traffik The story revolves around the illicit heroin trade from the Far East into the streets of Europe. Ormond played the heroin-addicted daughter of the main character who was a Home Office minister who was involved in battling heroin imports. The character's first appearance earned him rave reviews.
