Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a speaking event organizer. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency explores how women are depicted in popular media. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they appear in popular media. Furthermore, she works to raise the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being a popular public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was founded in 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been fascinated by issues related to gender and feminism since a considerable period of time. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series that would examine gender representation in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. The woman was not stopped by the harassment, actually, it just reinforced her drive to become an expert on media and feminism. Her many notable contributions in the feminist field are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
